1. There are many reasons why your "anti-fluoride" (I'd like to know how you know that) patients might have more caries. It could be bad health, bad oral hygiene, a diet too high in sugar, vitamin deficiency etc. Did you conduct a scientific, controlled, peer-reviewed study or is that just your 'I'm-a-professional-so-I-must-know-all' complacent opinion? Even the anti-fluoride patients cannot avoid ingesting fluoride since it's in food, air, bathwater, shower water, fruit juice, mineral water and so on.
(These sources fluoride is not protecting them, is it? So what's the real cause of their cavities?

2. How can you control the amount of fluoride people drink in the water? Saying the level in the municipal water is 'carefully studied' means nothing if you cannot control the 'dose' people are drinking.

2. Fluoride may be a naturally occurring substance, but that does not mean it's safe, arsenic is naturally occurring.

In any case, it's not fluoride in the municipal water, it's hydrofluorosilicic acid; a nasty by-product of the phosphate fertilizer and aluminum industry. Didn't you know that? You should have known that if you're pushing it on your unsuspecting patients.

3. You say "Fluoride is by no means intended to be used in uncontrolled situations" - please see my point 2.

4. You say our arguments are paranoid. In fact they are science based. Science you have clearly not been exposed to in your professional career.

I sympathise with the clients who swallow your advice without question. Advice which is about as toxic as the fluoride you ask them to rinse their mouths with.

As both a "subscriber" in my rss feeds, and a FB follower, I thank you for this excellent material. You bring out some excellent points. I saw this in action in NH this January in the House, the dental lobby basically encapsulated a committee looking into studying IF we should so much as require warning labeling for parents of infants, on water bills. "Nip it in the bud". very efficient.

Fluoride is terrible stuff. I couldn't agree more with your sober view of the way dentists are caught up in defending this toxin.I hope one day they will come to their senses.

At the end of the day, when all risks are considered, there is no excuse for fluoridated public water. It's wrong from all perspectives: business, health, and ethics.

I took two commonly prescribed anti-depressants containing fluoride for several years,and i unknowingly drank my share of water too.It made me a physical and psychological wreck,and i thought i might die.But after getting the fluoride out my life,detoxing and taking antioxidants,and drinking properly filtered water,my symptoms have greatly improved.It is criminal what government,medical establishment and big corp is doing to people,especially children,with fluoride.It is a scam of monumental proportions.Fluoride has ZERO benefits,except to special interests.For the rest of us,it is slow suicide.And the ubiquity of this substance makes it difficult to avoid.But you can reduce your toxic burden significantly with a little effort.

I just found out that there is a new world standard (implemented in the last 12 months) to increase fluoride amounts in toothpaste.

So why are they increasing the content of a chemical in our toothpaste, a chemical that research shows does harm to the human body, and has no true benefits?

Years ago it was thought to protect teeth against decay, these days people that have read the research know better, but why are pharamceutical comapnies allowed to do this? And why does the govermnet still allow fluroide in water??

I find it insane that something that they came up with 25 years ago is still being done and without proper health safety testing and with the research from professionals in dental industry stating the dangers of ingested fluoride.

They spend years researching a cure for cancer but we never hear anything about prevention.

We need to start waking up and seeing that these things we are told are good for us, are really about these corporations seeking more power, money and control.

Fluroide in only the tip of the iceberg - We need to confront the reality about the use of chemicals & plastics in our daily lives, ingredients in vaccines harming children and adults alike, GMO the list goes on...!

To Trica (above post) there is a Water Brand called "Nobles Water" that comes in a cask and is BPA FREE(nastly plastic chemical) . It tastes cleaner than normal drinking water.

Subsequent to this article I was in correspondence with a highly credentialed dentist who has for many years been trying to get fluoridation curtailed. From this correspondence I also learned that the methodology the CDC uses to estimate dental fluorosis underestimates the problem.

Even more disturbing, he forwarded along a memo from the Environmental Protection Agency written some years ago by the Chief Toxicologist responsible for water safety. While I didn't emphasize it in this essay, (I suppose on reflection I may need to do a write-up solely related to that memo), if you read the memo, you find that the chief toxicologist at the EPA responsible for water safety is defending an estimate published in the medical literature that water fluoridation is responsible for ten thousand deaths a year in the US.

Consuming and using a fluoride-free diet does not cause tooth decay.

Fluoride is a drug with adverse side effects

Though our teeth needs fluoride, my dentist in Nashua told me that if our teeth are exposed to too much amount, it may also cause tooth damages. Though the patients above showed the stages of fluoride cases, the dentist told me that such could start even at the age of 8. Too much intake of food with fluoride or even drinking water that has high fluoride content will eventually damage one's teeth. If signs start to show, it is better to see a dentist before it gets worse.

Having come from a part of the world where natural fluoride is high and then being educated in the UK where fluoride was added to the water along with fluoride treatments in school, I suffer from fluorosis.
Personally I can see no good reason to medicate an entire population on any grounds. I find it immoral.
Fluoride is a toxin (as stated on toothpaste packaging) the swallowing of which needs emergency medical help. According to research its toxicity lies in between that of lead and arsenic.
Many of the side effects of fluoride ingestion can be found at the website Time to Awaken
Currently there is a plan to add lithium to the water supplies after tests done in Japan found the population more docile - they should be, lithium is used in the treatment of manic depression and bi-polar disorders. This can be found as a BBC report here.
This amounts to the drugging and poisoning of entire populations.

So flouride was never approved for ingestion, but what about topical use? If adults use flouride toothpaste being careful not to swallow it does that mean they are safe from the dangers of it? After years of listening to how nothing was wrong with me, thou I have many of the systoms listed from having too much flouride, now at 30 years old, Doctors are starting to link these facts together. Flouride is very harmful, and knowing that now, my intestine stops working, and only a strict diet and excerize can make it work again. I have found that laxititves only delay improvement, and only result in needing more painkillers for the intestinal spasms, and muscle spasms. Please make this fact more publically known, all pleople need not grow with such man-made environmental dangers. Living with the effects of too much flouride can be a painful experience, and no drug can efficiently control the pain, nor regulate the intestine. And having your bones hurt, and hurt for over 22 years, and listen to how there's nothing wrong, is disheartening, and makes me believe that no doctor is out there actually help a client. It must be for the money and only the money. Flouride is harmful, do not add flouride to your water!
